History of Palmview
Palmview is located on the intersection of U.S. Highways 83 and Farm Road 2061, just eight miles northwest of McAllen in Hidalgo County. The city of Palmview may have originated in the town of Mamie, which was established at the site as a station on the St. Louis, Brownsville and Mexico Railway in 1904. Palmview was incorporated in 1978, with a population of 220 people. In 1990, the population of Palmview was estimated at 1,818 and by 2000, the population had increased to 4,107 people.
Palmview School District
Palmview is served by the La Joya Independent School District and Palmview High School is one of the two newest high schools in the district, which was constructed to accommodate the large population of students living within the school district. The school district is located on the boundary between Palmview and Mission, Texas. Additionally, the South Texas Independent School District operates magnet schools that also serve the Palmview community.
Palmview may not be a well-known city, or a city that people can quickly point to on a map of Texas, but don’t discount this town just yet.
